It’s our birthday!
It’s our birthday! We turn one this month and we couldn’t be happier about it. What a year it has been. The main vision for the restaurant is to serve our community, bring people together for laughter and special moments. We have always also wanted our space to be lively, full of life and full of authentic, Indian & Pakistani flavour! Some of the best evenings are with good food and good company, right?!
The acceptance and warmth from our customers over this past year have been truly heartwarming, and If we were ever to have any doubts about our Royal Mahal ventures, these have been eliminated all due to the encouragement from our community, and the love for our brand. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you.
Through the other end of a long tunnel
Of course, it has been a rollercoaster year, and we don’t often like to talk about the difficulties which the pandemic has brought to us. However, we are counting our blessings to be out the other end of the long and treacherous, tunnel. As we enter a new year of Royal Mahal, we are very thankful to all of our customers and community for supporting us. We have now started to reflect on the learnings which this year has taught us. Launching our restaurant during a pandemic was one of the biggest challenges, however, we are better as a team from it and are now stronger than before!
How Royal Mahal adapted
Working with our chefs who all have a passion for cooking and for creating a flavourful experience for our guests, and who have over 20 years of experience in Indian and Pakistani cooking.
We knew that we needed to fasten our seatbelts, ready for the long haul with this pandemic and we pulled together to adapt to overcome and engage with our customers. But how did we do this? There are few specifics below which we are extremely proud of:
Free charity school meals
- We provided takeaway meals to the vulnerable, elderly and homeless locally. Our efforts were inspired by Marcus Rashford’s movement to battle child food poverty, and are still very close to us and we are proud to support our local community. https://royalmahal.co.uk/2020-reflection-royal-mahal-london/
NHS meals to local hospitals
- We also provided takeaway meals to the NHS critical care workers who worked so endlessly hard throughout the period. We also donated to emergency service workers who always keep our communities safe. Our friends over at our local Fire Station were always very happy when receiving their goodies! Outdoor dining
- Outdoor dining
- As we couldn’t dine inside, we made it work and created an outdoor dining space! We were able to operate at normal capacity where customers could order as they wish and we would deliver our Indian and Pakistani food outside! Despite the testing temperatures, this proved very successful in the build-up to opening back up the restaurant fully.
Refurbishment
- A new Royal Mahal was born! We undertook a full refurbishment for a new look and feel inside your Royal Mahal. Opening back up after lockdown was going to be a phenomenal task so we decided to pick up some paint and brushes and redecorate. Gone are our purples and in are our new very Royal blue! We received a shipment of our brand new furniture with a few days to spare till opening!
Donation of Food
- We set up and initiated a weekly donation of food to Tooting Community Kitchen (TCK). Again, providing food to the homeless and those in need. We continuously work with TCK to better our community and come together, this friendship has now lasted beyond the pandemic and we still provide our friends at TCK with weekly donations of food.
Elevated our menu
- We have elevated our menu! During this period we offered ‘picnic in the park’ takeaways for all to enjoy during the lockdown, which introduced a more street food focus to our menu.
- Our most popular dishes boomed over lockdown, some of these dishes included dynamite range which comes in chicken or prawn. The masala chips are a unique taste and a must-have which our customers adore.
- We are expanding our menu even further, so watch this space for more information.
Palestine day
- We wanted to keep up our good work of giving back to the community, helping where we can. We always want to do our bit! We teamed up with Human Aid and donated all proceedings to the ongoing issues in Palestine, we raised a phenomenal total of £6,039.88.
Chaand Raat
- A huge milestone for Royal Mahal, and something very close to our hearts. Our Chaand Raat was Tooting’s first indoor Chaand Raat, it took place the night before eid and we had around 30 stallholders who all brought their own diverse ventures to our banqueting suites, we also had the infamous Chaiiwala serving their delicious Karak chai. We cannot wait to run this event again next year!
Our banqueting hall!
Despite all of the challenges we have recently faced, the birth of Royal Mahal Banqueting has been a huge success! We expanded our services as we wanted to do what we do best, catering to the community! We feel honoured to have our banqueting hall in, The Classic building. The building has lots of previous history involving entertaining the community of South London, and we are happy that we are keeping up the tradition, and to date, we see our space booked out each week, we couldn’t be prouder.
Whatever your banqueting style, wedding birthday or even just a big feast. We can cater and tailor your event to your style. Small or large we are here to make your experience seamless and superior.
